Savinski Boarding School

The Savinski School is a boarding school and is home for 60 children, 20 of whom are orphans. The large building they are housed in is more than adequate space wise but difficult to maintain due to its size and severe under funding. Unfortunately, institutions for handicapped receive low priority in the Federal and Republic funding. None the less, the staff manages to keep a bright interior with annual painting of halls and class rooms, including the desk tops! When we visited in August they were preparing for the school session opening on September 1, but were painfully low on basic school supplies and our ability to help was greatly appreciated. Most of the students were home on summer break but the orphans were there and happily gave us a tour of the facility. In November we purchased a new 25 inch Television to replace the 20 year old set they had which was impossible to see clearly even with good vision. When we spoke with the director in December, 2005, she informed us that 32 of the children needed eyeglasses at a cost of around $700 and there were no funds to purchase them. We were able to provide the money to purchase them from the donations received from our Christmas, 2005, fund drive.
