Currently we are working with seven Russian Orphanages in the Mari-El Republic.
Six are in the city of Yoshkar-Ola and another about 25 miles out, in a town called Sovetsky. They represent about 900 of the orphans in that city of 300,000. Our primary fund raising is done during the Christmas Season when we collect money and distribute gifts. We contact each orphanage and our staff buys based on input from the directors. Mostly, we buy items that can be shared by all such as table games, ski's and skates, sports uniforms, ping pong tables, televisions, audio equipment, etc. Our staff handles all the money and purchasing, however, when possible, we havehad staff accompany us and help with the selection. At the Baby Home we usually spend about 1/2 was on toys and the other 1/2 on clothes and pajamas which they are always in dire need of. Depending on the amout of continuing donations we try to help the orphanages throughout the year. In addition to Christmas, in the past we have purchased 15 chairs for Baby House, summer sports gear for Hope and Warm House. In August, 2005 we purchased over $800 worth of school supplies for all the orphanges with the exception of Baby House.. We deal with wholesalers as much as possible to stretch thedollars. The staff at these orphanages do a tremendous job with the limited funds that they receive from the government, however all they can provide is the basic necessities. Often times repairs are needed but can not be done due to lack of funds. Your gift will be greatly appreciated.
